Day 2 - Matera - Alberobello

Distance: 80 Km, elevation gain 650m
Today’s ride takes you through southern Murgia to reach one of Italy’s most unique cities, Alberobello. Known worldwide as the capital of the Trulli, this charming town is home to around 1,500 distinctive dry-stone buildings with conical roofs. These iconic structures are primarily found in the Monti and Aia Piccola districts, both recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 1996.

Day 3 - Alberobello - Ostuni

Distance: 52 km, elevation gain 600m
Today’s ride will take you over the rolling hills overlooking the stunning Itria Valley. Nature enthusiasts will be captivated by the breathtaking landscapes: vast stretches of ancient olive trees, vibrant red soil, lush green vineyards, and the iconic white trulli houses, all set beneath a serene blue sky. This enchanting chromatic harmony repeats itself endlessly, creating unforgettable vistas.

Along the way, we recommend three delightful stops. First, visit Locorotondo for a classic Italian aperitif and a taste of the region’s exquisite white wine. Next, explore Martina Franca, where you can wander its beautifully preserved historic center, admire its elegant piazzas, and marvel at the stunning palazzi. Finally, stop in **Cisternino** for a lunch break at one of its renowned butcher shops, where you can select your meat and have it freshly cooked to perfection.

Your journey concludes in Ostuni, the White City. Its dazzling whitewashed buildings and arches stretch across three hills, with the magnificent cathedral at its heart, sparkling like a gem. Overnight stay in Ostuni.

Day 4 - Ostuni - Manduria

Distance: 70 km, elevation gain 260m
Begin your journey with a scenic 70 km ride (+260 m elevation) through the stunning countryside, dotted with charming small towns. Along the way, you’ll pass San Vito dei Normanni , Mesagne, and Oria, where you can admire their magnificent Frederick’s castles, steeped in history and architectural grandeur.

The day's adventure concludes in Manduria, renowned for its Primitivo DOC wine. Your visit begins with the **Museum of the Civilization of Primitivo Wine, where you’ll delve into the rich history, culture, and traditional winemaking techniques of the region.

Following the museum tour, enjoy a guided wine tasting led by an expert sommelier, who will introduce you to the distinct characteristics of Primitivo wines, including their aroma, flavor profiles, and production methods. To elevate the experience, the tasting is paired with local delicacies, offering a perfect blend of flavors and a profound appreciation for Manduria’s winemaking heritage.

Day 5 - Manduria- Gallipoli

Distance 70 km, elevation gain 350m
This stage takes you along the picturesque west coast of Salento, cycling through Campo Marino and Porto Cesareo before reaching the charming town of Gallipoli. Known as the "Pearl of the Ionian Sea," Gallipoli’s historic center sits on an island, connected to the mainland by a 16th-century bridge.

The old town is a treasure trove of Baroque architecture, boasting numerous magnificent churches and aristocratic palazzi that reflect its rich history as a prosperous trading hub. As you navigate its maze-like narrow streets, you’ll eventually find yourself on the seafront promenade, where sweeping views of the Ionian Sea provide the perfect reward for the day’s ride. Overnight stay in Gallipoli.

Day 6 - Gallipoli - Santa Maria di Leuca

Distance 52 km, elevation gain 230m
Leaving behind the charm of Gallipoli, you’ll ride along the scenic Ionian Coast towards Torre San Giovanni, where the crystal-clear waters are sure to tempt you for a quick dip—but the journey calls! Back on your bike, you’ll continue for another 35 km, heading to Santa Maria di Leuca, the southernmost point of Salento.

Here, where the Ionian and Adriatic Seas converge, you’ll be captivated by the striking natural beauty, vibrant colors, and an almost otherworldly sense of tranquility. It’s a place where the meeting of seas creates a breathtaking vista, leaving a lasting impression on every visitor.

Day 7 - Santa Maria di Leuca - Otranto

Distance: 65 km, elevation gain 650m
Your route takes you past the charming marinas of Tricase Porto and Castro Marina, leading to one of Salento’s most enchanting destinations: Otranto.

In Otranto, treat yourself to a delicious seafood dinner, explore the historic center with its vibrant atmosphere, and browse the local shops for unique souvenirs.

Before reaching Otranto, take a rewarding detour to Uggiano La Chiesa for an unforgettable olive oil tasting experience. Begin with a guided tour of the 16th-century “Mulino a Vento” hypogeum mill, a fascinating underground mill steeped in history. Following the tour, savor a tasting of local extra virgin olive oil (EVO) paired with traditional Puglian bread made from Senatore Cappelli durum wheat. Sample two distinct varieties of EVO oil, each offering an explosion of intense aroma and bold flavors that highlight the rich heritage of Puglian olive oil production.

End the day immersed in the flavors, sights, and history of this captivating region.

Day 8 - Otranto - Lecce

Distance 56 km, elevation gain 285m
In the morning, if you want, there's time to visit the city. Otranto is best appreciated in its amazing cathedral, where the bones of 813 martyrs are displayed in a glass case behind the altar. Less macabre is the cathedral’s other jaw-dropper, its medieval mosaic floor, which rivals the famous early Christian mosaics of Ravenna in its richness and historical significance. Cycling along the Alimini Lakes, you’ll finally reach the seaside village of Torre dell'Orso: don't miss the opportunity to swim in the suggestive Grotta della Poesia. Before arriving in LECCE you will meet Acaya, a perfect stop for an authentic Italian espresso or for a drink at sunset in front of the castle. Overnight stay in Lecce.
