The Town Where Time Stood Still – Gothic-Renaissance Castle and Urban Conservation Area, UNESCO Site.
In the Middle Ages, Ceský Krumlov Castle was the family seat of the most powerful Czech nobles – The Rosenberg’s, Lords of the Rose. The castle complex, the oldest section which dates as far back as the mid-13th century, is one of the largest in Europe. The Baroque theatre, which has been preserved along with costumes, sets, and stage equipment, has nothing to equal it anywhere in the world. The impressive arched bridge connects the castle to the adjacent Baroque park. The castle tower offers a wonderful view of the meandering River Vltava and the town spread out below the castle. Of all towns and cities in the Czech Republic, Ceský Krumlov has most preserved its original medieval character.
